Start-up

1. Open main valve on compressed nitrogen tank (turn counter-clockwise) to

pressurize air table.

2. Remove blue dust cover from microscope.

3. Read slip of paper in front of mercury (Hg) lamp power supply.

 BE SURE AT LEAST 1 HOUR HAS ELAPSED SINCE Hg LAMP WAS

LAST TURNED OFF BEFORE TURNING IT ON AGAIN (otherwise, bulb

explosion, Hg contamination of the room, and lamp housing damage can

result).

4. Turn on Hg lamp power supply. Wait until all 4 green lights come on.

5. Turn on Components switch. A few seconds later turn on System/PC switch. Entire system should come

on.

6. Enter your User Name and Password (if you have one) on

monitor. Click OK.

 Never download any software to the confocal computer.

7. Double- click icon on desktop.

8. Click Scan New Images (click Use Existing Images if you want to work with previously collected

images only), then click Start Expert Mode.

 Do NOT touch anything during Hardware

Initialization.
